As many of you already know, I am heading to Rwanda on 6/11/10 to volunteer with the management of the Gashora Girls Academy. I will be in Rwanda for 6 months living in Kigali. The foundation I am working with is Rwanda Girls Initiative. Thier website is rwandagirlsinitiative.org. The project will be built on 33 acres of land with 4 classroom buildings, 3 dormatories, a dining facility, soccer field, Headmaster House, Faculty House, and other out buildings. This upper secondary education school will serve 250 girls. A Community Center has been in construction over the last year and is near completion. Sustainable crops were planted some time ago. Part of the girls education will be to learn farming, market the crops, and also use them as part of thier food source.
I have never been a blogger but thought it will be a great way to keep in contact. Time will tell if I can be a real blogger! Thanks to all of you for your support and the many going away beers over the last 2 weeks. I will update you once I arrive and get settled in
